How long did it take you to become a dental hygienist?
I go to a community college in florida and I was told that at community colleges the waiting list is two years when you apply to the dental hygiene program, plus two years of training. However I spoke to someone who goes to sanford brown institute and she told me that the dental hygiene program is only 9 months to 1 year there and no waiting list. I’m working on my CDA right now. You think I should switch schools to become a hygienist?
Most hygiene programs are 2 yrs of undergraduate prerequisites and then 2 yrs of hygiene school. There are some programs that try to combine these. I would contact the school you mention and ask some specific questions about their requirements…and remember there still is a Board to pass, so you must be trained correctly. Good Luck

I think the wait list for the hygiene program is common. Where I am from it’s a LOT longer! I have known many to switch schools to complete their training sooner. I think you have to complete your 2 years of prerequisites before you can even apply to the program. Otherwise, finish the prereq’s and work as an assistant until a spot opens up for you in the local program(another 2 years.)
