Is it easy to transition from a dental assistant to a dental hygienist?

I’m enrolled in a dental assistant program(it hasn’t started yet).If I like it and want to become a dental hygienist will being a dental assistant help me to get into a hygienist program?

Being an assistant definitely helps when getting into hygiene school because you have a basic knowledge of the teeth and mouth. I am done with Hygiene school and had no dental experience whatsoever beforehand but worked as an assistant after graduating while waiting to find a regular hygiene job. The two jobs are completely different. While one helps you a bit with the other, the actual things that you do as part of each job are not the same. But good luck and definitely go into hygiene after assisting if you can, assistants do so much work and only get paid half the money a hygienist gets paid and most the time i feel a hygienist has it a lot better.
