How hard is it to find a job as a dental hygienist?

I have just finished my first semester in nursing school and did not enjoy it at all. So I am thinking about transferring into a dental hygiene program before I go too far in my nursing career. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was hard to get a job as a dental hygienist and what would help me get in to a good dental office. I am thinking about going to school to be a dental assistant first and was wondering if that will be hard to find a job in as well. Thank you!

It depends on the area that you are looking at working in. Some areas have a higher demand than others. You will probably not have much of a problem finding work on a part-time basis, most of the hygienists that I know work part time at several offices. Some dentists like having assistants that work and move up to a hygienist position. Others do not like to spend the time training an assistant who will leave or work a reduced schedule after they start school. I am currently in a dental hygiene program and the hours are not flexible. We go to school during the day while most dentists offices are open. And as you know most of these programs do not offer a part-time option. Why am I saying this; because it might be difficult to find a part-time job and go to school if you are limiting yourself to a dentists office.

Your choice of dental hygiene is a stable one and depending on the area that you live in it could be a very lucrative one.

Good Luck.

Need help with my resume!?

I’m applying for a dental assistant job, and need some help making my resume look good. I don’t have experience with it, but they are willing to train. I have mostly been a stay home mom for 6 years, with some odd jobs here and there. Is it okay to leave off jobs? The ones that were only for a short amount of time and not even worth mentioning? Should I put homemaker on it? I have excellent computer skills, experience with all of the microsoft programs, have an Associate’s degree in office technology. I know it’s not that great of one, but the education and skills looks better than the employment. I need some help with the wording of it, to make it look interesting and professional. Oh, and the objective too. I’ve always had a hard time with that. Any help appreciated!

The fact that "they are willing to train" should tell you something right there. Basically, the knowledge required to do the work is not as important as the character attributes they are looking for in an employee.

In short, things like excellent interpersonal skills, ability to be on time, low absenteeism, ability to follow directions and learn, emotional maturity, all must matter. Basically, think about what the dental practice may want in a dental assistant. Most likely it is someone who can help the dentist most effectively serve his/her patients.

So to answer your question, stress your attributes as a stay at home Mom. Time effectiveness, responsibility, hard work ethic, muti-tasking, emotional maturity, and a host of other well earned "Mom skills". Do talk about your computer skills (maybe bring in something you did or give an example of something you’ve done that solved a problem). Then, if appropriate, mention your previous work experiences that may relate. You don’t have to list them all. However, be prepared to answer why they may have been short term (remember, they are hiring to solve their problem, not add to them).

As for an objective on a resume, at your level and in the health care profession it is not important to list generally. My advise is to leave it off. Meanwhile, you may choose to attach a cover letter and state you are interested in a direct patient care position and are very interested in having the opportunity to work for them.

Finally, just a reminder if you get an interview don’t forget to write a note of thanks to the person who interviewed you. It is a great opportunity to remind them again of your interest and it reflects on your professionalism.

Best of luck to you on this opportunity and I hope all goes well for you.

Where are you? What state?

Most private ins. is bad. DEfinetly stay away from the HMOs

If you need a lot of work. Most Dental insurance will only cover 1 or 2 teeth of major work before maxing out for the year.

In california there is one being advocated fy the better business Bureau. It was actually pretty fair. Try calling the BBB.

Full mouth dental implants taken by a Taiwan citizen

An artificial or non natural tooth root replacement is known as full mouth dental implant. A full mouth dental implant surgery in India was taken by a Taiwan citizen named Wei Chang. He suffered a lot of problems due to unbearable pain and also due to several gaps between teeth. There are many types of dental implants and the most successful treatment and accepted by many is Osseo integrated implant. Dental Implants Surgery is a step by step procedure. The first surgery prepares the jawbone for the implant by placing a titanium rod in the bone; the second surgery actually screws the dental restoration to the rod. There is a healing period of three to six months between procedures, called osseointegration, in which the titanium implant rod integrates with the jawbone. During the surgery the dentist will sedate the patient to ensure that he or she is comfortable. Next, the dentist will make an incision in the gums where the implant will be placed. The dentist exposes the jawbone and uses a special drill to make the holes to accommodate the dental implant. Then, the titanium rod is placed in the jawbone and the gums are closed with stitches. Temporary restorations, such as bridges or dentures, may be placed. The healing process, called osseointegration, will take about three to six months. After the surgery the dentist will outline specific instructions after the first surgery on caring for the implant, managing any pain or discomfort, and diet restrictions. Surgeons may recommend a diet of soft foods while the implant heals. There is some simple steps which you can follow like routine cleaning of your artificial teeth. This can keep them healthy. Full mouth dental implant surgery in India is assisted by the most sought dental surgeons of Delhi and Mumbai. Like natural teeth, you should also brush your implants after every meal. There are special brushes which can be used to clean behind and below the artificial replacements. Flossing around the implants is a must and you must do it. You will be able to eat most of the foods. However, you must avoid chewing ice, hard objects and sticky foods.
